KCET 2027: What Is Confirmed, What Is Expected, and What to Check on the KEA Portal

Search for KCET 2027 this week and you will find two opposite answers sitting side by side. One page insists the notification is already out, with a date in October 2026. Another says the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has announced nothing yet for 2027. Both cannot be right, and for a 2nd PUC student planning the next six months, the difference matters. This guide sorts the two piles honestly: what is genuinely settled about KCET 2027, what is only a reasonable expectation carried over from 2026, and what you should check on the official KEA portal before you act on anything.

A plain warning comes first. On 2 November 2026, both official KEA portals — kea.kar.nic.in and cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea — timed out when checked for this article, after repeated attempts. That does not mean a schedule is absent, and it does not mean one is present. It means the official position could not be read directly on that day, so every 2027 date below is labelled expected, not confirmed, until KEA publishes its own bulletin. Treat any site that states a 2027 KCET date without that label with suspicion, however confident it sounds.

What KCET actually is, and who runs it

KCET, officially called UGCET, is Karnataka’s state-level entrance test for undergraduate professional courses. KEA conducts it for admission to engineering, pharmacy, farm science, nursing and allied health courses in colleges across Karnataka. It is not a national test and it is not run by a private coaching company, even though coaching websites write about it far more loudly than KEA does.

That explains much of the confusion. When KEA is quiet between cycles, coaching and admissions sites fill the gap with pages titled as if the notification had arrived. Some of those pages mix a real 2026 fact with a guessed 2027 date in the same table, and the guess then gets copied elsewhere as though KEA had announced it. If a page does not quote a KEA bulletin, treat its dates as that site’s estimate.

What is confirmed about KCET 2027

Very little about the 2027 cycle itself is confirmed in public reporting as of early November 2026, and saying so is more useful than inventing a timetable. What is solid is the framework that has held for years and that KEA would have to change explicitly before students should assume otherwise.

First, the conducting body is KEA, and the official portals are kea.kar.nic.in and cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea. Applications have been online only in recent cycles, with no offline form. Second, the test covers 1st and 2nd PUC syllabus, with separate papers for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology. Third, the long-standing pattern — 60 questions per paper, one mark each, 80 minutes per paper, no negative marking — is the pattern every recent cycle has followed, and it is the pattern to prepare for unless the 2027 bulletin changes it.

None of that is a 2027 date. It is the shape of the exam, and it is enough to start preparing, even while the calendar is still blank.

What is expected, and why it is only expected

The most widely repeated expectation is that the 2027 information bulletin and application form will appear in January 2027, with the exam in late April 2027. That expectation is not pulled from thin air. In 2026, the form opened on 17 January 2026 and, after extensions, closed on 27 February 2026, and the exam was held on 23 and 24 April 2026. A January form and an April exam therefore fit the recent rhythm.

But a rhythm is not an announcement. One set of pages claims a KCET 2027 notification dated 13 or 14 October 2026, with applications opening in November or December 2026. Another set, including the more careful admissions trackers, states plainly that KEA has not released the 2027 schedule and that the bulletin is expected in January 2027. When sources disagree this sharply, and the official portal cannot be reached to settle it, the honest position is the second one: expected in January, exam expected in April, and everything else unconfirmed. Students who plan around a November application window that never opens will waste weeks refreshing a portal; students who assume January and check weekly will not miss anything.

Fees follow the same rule. Recent cycles charged around ₹500 for Karnataka general candidates, ₹250 for SC, ST and Category-1 candidates, and ₹750 for outside-Karnataka candidates. Those are 2026 figures, not confirmed for 2027, and the bulletin is the only place to confirm them. Do not pay anyone collecting a supposed 2027 fee before KEA opens the form.

The exam pattern to prepare for

Until the 2027 bulletin says otherwise, prepare on the established pattern. Engineering aspirants take Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Pharmacy, agriculture and allied-course aspirants take Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Each paper carries 60 multiple-choice questions, each worth one mark, in 80 minutes, on an OMR sheet, with no negative marking. That last point changes exam behaviour: with no penalty for a wrong answer, leaving a question blank gains nothing, so every question deserves an attempted answer, even a reasoned guess.

The total is 180 marks per stream, but the rank is not the CET score alone. For engineering, KEA has historically combined CET marks with qualifying-exam marks in the core subjects, at roughly equal weight — 50 per cent CET and 50 per cent 2nd PUC marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. That is why a student who treats board exams as a distraction from KCET is making a costly mistake. The board score travels with you into the rank list, so the same chapter, revised properly, pays twice.

A separate Kannada language test applies to certain categories, notably Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates. If that category applies to you, check the bulletin for it specifically.

What to check on the KEA portal, and how often

When the portal loads again, check three places, not just the homepage banner. First, the notifications or latest-news section for a document called the UGCET 2027 information bulletin or brochure. That document, not a news article about it, is the authority. Second, the online application link itself: if the form is genuinely open, the link will be live on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea. Third, the eligibility and document list inside the bulletin, because the fine print — which certificates, in which format, and by which date — is where applications actually fail.

Check once a week through November and December, and more often once January arrives: one visit to the KEA portal, one look at the notifications list, and then stop. Refreshing ten times a day does not make KEA publish faster. If a coaching site announces a date, use it as a prompt to check KEA, not as a substitute.

The documents to keep ready now

You do not need the bulletin to get your paperwork in order, and doing it now removes the most common reason for a last-minute panic. Keep your 2nd PUC marks or hall ticket details, your study certificate, caste and income certificates if you claim reservation, and your domicile documents in one folder, with scanned copies that are legible and correctly named. Our guide to the Karnataka study certificate explains the seven-year rule and which certificates need countersigning, and it is worth reading before you assume yours is complete.

Reservation and domicile certificates must come from a Karnataka authority to be accepted at verification. Check expiry and format now, while there is time to correct them.

Frequently asked questions

Has KEA released the KCET 2027 notification?
As of 2 November 2026, careful trackers report that KEA has not released the 2027 schedule, and the official portals were unreachable when checked for this article. Some sites claim an October 2026 notification, but that claim conflicts with other reporting and could not be verified against KEA itself. Treat January 2027 as the expected bulletin window, not a confirmed date.

When will the KCET 2027 exam be held?
Expected in late April 2027, based on the 2026 exam dates of 23 and 24 April. That is an expectation from the previous cycle, not a confirmed 2027 date, and the 2027 bulletin will settle it.

What is the KCET 2027 application fee?
Not confirmed for 2027. The 2026 figures were around ₹500 for Karnataka general candidates and ₹250 for SC, ST and Category-1 candidates. Confirm the fee from the 2027 bulletin before paying.

Where is the official KCET website?
kea.kar.nic.in and cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea. If a site asks you to apply or pay anywhere else, stop and check KEA first.

The bottom line

KCET 2027 is coming, and its shape is familiar — but its calendar is not yet published in any verifiable way. Prepare on the established pattern, keep your documents ready, check KEA weekly, and refuse to build your plan on a date no official source has confirmed.
