Every year around this time, the same forwarded message does the rounds of college groups: “SSP last date announced, apply immediately.” The date in the forward is usually correct — for somebody. It may belong to a different department from yours, which makes it useless to you, or worse, it makes you relax when your own window closes this week.
So let us be precise. The State Scholarship Portal is one website, but the money on it comes from separate Karnataka government departments, and each department issues its own notification with its own closing date. That is why there is no single ssp scholarship last date 2026-27 anyone can honestly give you. As of 30 October 2026, the post-matric deadlines run from 31 October 2026 — two days from now — all the way to 31 January 2027. Which end of that range you sit on depends entirely on which department’s scheme you are applying under.
One portal, many deadlines: how SSP actually works
Think of SSP as a shared counter with several windows behind it. You log in with one student account at ssp.postmatric.karnataka.gov.in, but the scheme you apply to is funded and approved by a department: Social Welfare for Scheduled Caste students, Tribal Welfare for Scheduled Tribe students, Backward Classes Welfare for OBC students, Minorities Welfare for minority-community students, and so on. Technical Education runs its own smaller set of schemes for polytechnic and engineering students.
Each department opens, extends and closes applications on its own schedule. Extensions are where the confusion multiplies: a department may first announce 31 August, push it to 30 September, and later push it again — while an old PDF with the August date keeps circulating for months. Several 2026-27 deadlines moved exactly like this, which is why different websites show different dates for the same department. The table below uses the latest date reported for each department as of 30 October 2026.
The ssp scholarship last date 2026-27, department by department
| Department (post-matric schemes) | Last date, 2026-27 | Status on 30 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Backward Classes Welfare Department | 31 October 2026 | Open — closes in two days |
| Department of Technical Education (listed schemes) | 31 October 2026 | Open — closes in two days |
| Minorities Welfare Department | 30 November 2026 | Open |
| Tribal Welfare Department | 31 December 2026 | Open |
| Social Welfare Department | 31 January 2027 | Open |
Backward Classes Welfare — 31 October 2026. The department’s own website invites backward-class and Category-1 nomadic and semi-nomadic students to apply for its post-matric scholarship, fee concession and Vidyasiri facilities, with 31 October 2026 as the last date. Earlier lists showed 31 August, then 30 September, for this department; the date has moved twice. If you are an OBC student who has not submitted yet, treat this weekend as a working weekend.
Technical Education — 31 October 2026. The DTE schemes listed on the portal — the post-matric scholarship for ST students in diploma and engineering courses, the scheme for children of defence personnel, and the Prathibha Puraskara free-fee scheme — carry a 31 October 2026 closing date in current listings, reported in Karnataka education news on 22 October. If your college handles your scholarship through a DTE scheme, this is your date, even if your community’s department shows a later one.
Minorities Welfare — 30 November 2026. Minority students first saw a 30 September date. The deadline that now stands in current portal-based listings is 30 November 2026. Use the extra month to get your documents right, not to postpone starting.
Tribal Welfare — 31 December 2026. ST students get until the end of the year. An August date for this department still shows up on older pages; the extended date reported across current listings is 31 December 2026.
Social Welfare — 31 January 2027. SC students have the longest window, and the department is still actively inviting applications — a Social Welfare office press note from Mysuru taluk, published on 22 October 2026, reminded SC students there to apply before 31 January 2027. Do not mistake a January deadline for a relaxed one: college verification queues build up badly in the final fortnight.
One more date sits beside the table. Pre-matric applications — Classes 1 to 10 — closed on 30 September 2026 across departments, so if you are looking for a school-level scholarship for this year, that window has already passed.
Which department is yours?
Most students can settle this from their caste or community certificate, because that is what decides the scheme:
- SC students apply under the Social Welfare Department.
- ST students apply under the Tribal Welfare Department — unless the college has placed you under a DTE scheme, in which case the DTE date governs.
- OBC and backward-class students, including Category-1 nomadic and semi-nomadic students, apply under the Backward Classes Welfare Department.
- Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist and Parsi students apply under the Minorities Welfare Department.
If you are still unsure, log in to your SSP account and read the scheme name shown against your application — the department sits inside that name. Your college’s scholarship desk can confirm it in a minute. Ask them before you assume a January date belongs to you; that one assumption is how students miss October deadlines every year.
Documents to keep ready, whichever date is yours
Whether your deadline is this week or three months away, the paperwork is much the same:
- Aadhaar card, with your name matching your other records.
- Caste or community certificate with its RD number.
- Income certificate for the current year.
- Previous year’s marks card.
- Bank account details — the account must be in your name and Aadhaar-seeded for DBT payment.
- College admission proof and the fee receipt for 2026-27.
- Bonafide or study certificate from your college.
SC, ST and OBC applicants should also finish the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the National Scholarship Portal before the SSP application — the portal flow asks for it, and the Social Welfare Department’s press note this month pointed students to the NSP OTR app for the OTP step. Do the OTR on a quiet day, not on deadline night.
When you sit down to apply: the order that works
Start on ssp.postmatric.karnataka.gov.in and create your account, or log in if you already have one from last year. Renewal students use the same login — do not create a second account. Complete the OTR step if your category requires it. Then fill the application, upload the documents, finish the e-attestation your college requires, and submit — then download or screenshot the acknowledgement and keep it.
Submit days before your department’s date, not on it. On closing days the portal slows down, OTPs arrive late, and the college officer attesting documents has forty other students in the same queue. None of that earns a late application an acceptance.
If your deadline has already passed
For pre-matric students, and for anyone whose department window closes before they apply, there are exactly two honest options. First, watch the SSP portal’s notice board and your department’s website: extensions do happen, and they are announced there before they appear anywhere else. Second, go to your college office and your district department office and ask, in person, whether a late window or a different scheme applies to you. What does not exist is a paid shortcut — anyone charging money to “reopen” an SSP application is taking your money, not helping you.
